''Living in the South Pacific' '
1995-96
3 x 3ox100cm
This tapestry was designed by Michael Reed and was the first collaborative tapestry woven by Marilyn Rea-Menzies.

It is a triptych and a shaped tapestry consisting of three setts, creating texture within the work. The tapestry acknowledges the technical heritage and influence of two cultures, referring to the siapo traditions of the Pacific Islands and the imperial heritage of Europe.

''Do Not Stare''

This small tapestry was designed by Paul Johns and woven by Marilyn Rea-Menzies. It actually appears very simple, but was one of the most difficult tapestries that Marilyn has woven. It features two simple faces in a very abstract way - circles within circles.

2 x 242x39cm
This tapestry diptych was designed by Rudolph Boelee and woven by Marilyn Rea-Menzies. Rudolph designed the image and he and Marilyn worked on choosing the yarns and colours together. Because the cups are handwoven, each oneis slightly different, giving a vibrancy and life to the images

2004
209x99cm
This bright and colourful tapestry is part of the City Life Series of works designed and woven by Marilyn Rea-Menzies. It depicts life in Christchurch - people enjoying themselves at an exhibition opening. Marilyn was fascinated by the fact that much information can be lost when abstracting a design but the brain can still read the image.

1983
130x100cm
This tapestry hanging is a very early work from when Marilyn was using a lot of texture in her work. It incorporates rya knotting and wrapping and tapestry techniques and is more of a banner than a pictorial tapestry.

Price. $3000.00
Status. For Sale

''Black on Black''
2004
75x55cm
This modular work consists of 12 small tapestries each 15x15cm in size and mounted on flocked wooden blocks hanging together to form a very contemporary artwork. The word 'black' is woven into each tapestry, using a range of black fibres and textures. The work was created initially for the exhibition 'Black/White - A Journey through Contrast' which toured New Zealand in 2004, showing in many major galleries around the country.
As black is very hard to photograph the image does not do the work justice.

Price. $4000.00

''Synthesis 1''
2011
202 x 120cm
The 'Synthesis' works are a series of large paintings that are unframed and are meant to find their own space on the wall. The medium is acrylic on canvas. They were painted for the exhibition 'Synthesis - The Links Between' at Arts in Oxford in July 2012. The paintings were inspired by the textiles woven by Wilson Henderson. Marilyn has treated the canvas as a textile, taking the weave structures of Wilson's work, blowing small sections of these structures up into a larger scale, thereby creating new forms and abstractions. She then cut into the canvas and wove painted canvas strips into the work, creating new structures and three dimensional elements within the work.
